VISIT

Hammerwood Park has been open to the public since April 1983.
For the summer of 2027, we'll be open by appointment for group and school visits, while we undertake some vital restoration work on the house.
Get in touch if you'd like to arrange a group or school visit.
We look forward to opening the house again for non-group visits in due course.

GETTING HERE
By car
Hammerwood can be found 3.5 miles east of East Grinstead, or 10 miles west of Tunbridge Wells, on the A264 (Holtye Road). Hammerwood Park is clearly signposted; once you have turned off the A road, continue down the village lane and past the pond, up the hill. You will then pass a cricket pitch on your left; the right turn to the house is signposted after 200yds.
Satellite navigation systems typically include Hammerwood Park as a place of interest; avoid using only the postcode as this will only take you as far as the middle of the village (and not beyond). Click here for Google Maps directions from your location to Hammerwood Park.
By public transport
The nearest railway stations are:
- Cowden (London Bridge from 42mins; Uckfield from 20mins) and
- Dormans (London Victoria from 55mins).
Each is a ten minute drive from Hammerwood, or a 2h15m/1h50m walk respectively on public footpaths (bring stout footwear). Neither station has a taxi rank; book a taxi by telephone in advance. We recommend Ashurst Cars (07393 613917) from Cowden, or Forest Cars (01342 822228) and Western Cars (01342 300000) from Dormans. If walking, take care when crossing the A264 and avoid routes which include it; it is not suitable for walkers.
Additionally, the Bluebell Railway runs a regular steam service from Sheffield Park, near Chailey and Haywards Heath, and Horsted Keynes to East Grinstead.
There is no bus service to/from Hammerwood, but buses from across the South East call at East Grinstead (whence it is possible to get a taxi in the manner described above) and Holtye (from which it is possible to walk using public footpaths in approximately 1h20m; bring suitable footwear and avoid the A264). Traveline South East has details of available services.
